Our version of Devil in the Kitchen is an amalgamation of two different tunes with the same name that somehow fit together. Major Mole was composed by Andrew Gow (1760-1803), second son of the famous Scottish fiddler Niel Gow. The original title was "Major Molle’s of the 9th Regiment of Foot Reel" and was written for Major George Molle who fought in many battles in Europe eventually became the Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales. Molle died at Madras in September of 1823.
